04.08.10 ~ The Hawaii Island Humane Society's Hawaii Horse Expo 2010 is slated for August 20 through 22 at the Waikoloa Stables in Waikoloa Village and at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort on Hawaii's Big Island. Proceeds from the annual event benefit the Humane Society's Horse Rescue Fund, which helps abused and abandoned horses on the island.

Event organizers have finalized an impressive list of noted experts who will share their vast knowledge in a variety of horse-related disciplines during three days of fun and interesting clinics and demonstrations.

Dr. Robert Miller, renowned equine behaviorist, author, and lecturer returns to Hawaii Horse Expo with a presentation he calls "Special Needs of the Senior Horse." Miller brings a lifetime of working with often difficult equine patients to his hands-on clinics.

Tammy Pate will host a clinic on "Intuitive Horsemanship" and a clinic on "Ranch Skills." Pate will share her inherent wisdom about horsemanship and riding with Expo attendees.

Dale Myler, an international expert on the horse's mouth, will host audio visual and live demonstrations on "How to Know if Your Horse is Bitted Properly." By following Myler's two full days of clinics, participants will see first hand the progress made when the correct bit is used.

Richard Winters, the 2009 Road to the Horse Champion, emphasizes communication and connection to the horse. Winters is National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) A-Rated Judge and the Horsemanship Instructor in Residence at California's Thacher School. At Hawaii Horse Expo Winters will present "Colt Starting" and "Reining."

Rick Lamb, popular host of RFD TV's "The Horse Show," returns for the third year as moderator. Lamb will also present a lecture he calls "Bucking, Biting, Bolting."

SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER: Dr. Jody Bearman is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, a Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist, a Certified Veterinary Chinese Herbalist, and a practitioner of “tui-na”—Chinese massage and physical therapy.

At Hawaii Horse Expo 2010, attendees will be educated and inspired. There is ample opportunity for attendees and clinicians to visit and share information in the intimate and purposeful structure of the weekend of events. The event also includes a cultural element. Attendees may bring strands of their horse's hair to be woven in to palm fronds which are then blessed with a traditional Hawaiian blessing.

Special Horse Expo room rates are available at the beachfront Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort August 18 through 25 beginning at just $149 per night. Hawaii Horse Expo guest lectures will take place at the resort on Friday, August 20. Tickets to HIHS Horse Expo 2010 start as low as $18.00. A portion of each ticket purchase is tax deductible. Expo supporters include Charles Stevens and the Waikoloa Stables. If you are interested in becoming a supporter, vendor, or sponsor, contact Nancy Jones at 808-887-2301.
